Parent-Child Class

Emerson Waldorf’s Parent-Child class supports children's exploration and healthy development through self-initiated movement and play in a carefully crafted holistic environment both inside and outside on our beautiful school farm in Chapel Hill.

Spend a gentle, nurturing morning with your child under the guiding wing of our Waldorf early childhood teachers. Parents learn ways to support their child’s natural development and to create a healthy and balanced home life through guidance, demonstration, and group sharing, while children build confidence within a gentle, home-like rhythm.

Parent-child classes at Emerson Waldorf School provide a supportive and welcoming environment for both children and caregivers. We encourage freedom of movement and self-initiated play for the children, taking their time to socialize and learn through play and exploration. At the same time, adults focus on mindfulness and setting the tone with meaningful work. Parents also enjoy connecting with other parents and learning how the Waldorf approach can support their child’s overall health and well-being.

A rich morning of indoor and outdoor activities will facilitate free gross motor movement and engage with young children’s innate capacity for learning through imitation. A homemade snack, a delightful circle of songs, gesture and lap games, and a puppet story round out the morning.

Together, we will explore topics such as:

Creating a balanced rhythm that supports the well-being of the whole family

Using self-initiated movement to support the child’s fine and gross motor development

Promoting resilience through gentle, respectful caregiving

Creating loving, positive family bonds through conscious parenting techniques

Nourishing the young child’s developing senses

A caregiving grandparent is welcome to attend with their grandchild in a parent’s stead. It is preferable that the same caregiver attend class each week. The program is not intended for nannies and babysitters. We are regretful that our space does not accommodate more than one parent or caregiver per child. We can accommodate infant siblings, although an important aspect of the program is spending quality time with your young child.

** Make-up dates are for days the class is canceled due to teacher absence only. There are no make-up dates for student absences.
