Ophelia Health is an online provider of medication-assisted treatment for opioid addiction. We provide an alternative treatment option to people who would otherwise have to go to in-person rehab or clinics. This gives people struggling with opioid use disorder (OUD) the ability to access treatment from the comfort of their homes.
I started working with Ophelia going into my final semester in my senior year of college. My manager was an Oberlin alum and reached out to me on LinkedIn to chat about my interests and my experience as I was preparing to graduate and looking for jobs. I started as an intern with him, working part-time through the end of the semester then became full-time at the end of the summer.
I love how mission-driven Ophelia is. Everyone on the team, from clinicians to software engineers to executives, is very dedicated and cares deeply about our patients. It’s nice to know the work we are doing is having an impact and changing people’s lives. Every day, people are dying from opioid overdoses, and most don’t have a good way to get treatment. This can be that light for someone.
On Waldorf
Throughout my life, Waldorf has taught me, more than any individual thing or subject, to be open to new experiences and be able to learn in new environments. I’ve always valued being able to further my understanding regardless of the domain of knowledge.
People talk about being a Renaissance person. I’ve found that being able to have conversations and function in lots of different areas of the start-up world is really valuable.
Flexibility is important. My role is as a Growth Marketing Analyst, but I do things throughout the scope of the business and contribute to a variety of projects and teams. In a smaller company, you’re more useful if you can add value in different areas. Being able to add a unique perspective to any conversation you’re in is supercritical.
In my role on the marketing team, I am able to really tap into my creative brain for designing website pages and ad images, as well as the more quantitative reasoning required for data analysis. I’ve always been artistically inclined and was able to develop that through Waldorf education. I still rely on that artistic and design thinking.
