Season of Light
Latern Walk
The lantern walk is a tradition that follows the lighting of Halloween jack-o-lanterns, allowing the children to carry a light into the darkness that is growing at this time of the year. The light is kindled, carried with the children, and culminates in the Spiral of Light in early December.
Spiral of Light
As we near the Winter Solstice, students will participate in the Spiral of Light during the school day. The Spiral of Light is a quiet and reverent occasion that celebrates bringing light into darkness. A lit candle stands in the center of a spiral of evergreen boughs scattered with shells and crystals. Each student, in turn, takes a candle into the center of the spiral, lights it, and then places their candle along the spiral as they leave. Each candle that is left helps light the path for those who come next. The spiral invites us to carry our light into the darkness and share that light with others.
