Childhood Magic Aftercare: 1 - 3 pm $100
Arts, crafts, nature walks, outdoor free play, water play, storytelling, and more led by our early childhood staff from Emerson Waldorf School. Campers will enjoy the outdoors and have fun on our awesome Kindergarten playground! We will offer campers the opportunity to splash in our wading pools every day, so please plan to send them with a bathing suit and towel. Parents can also “opt in” for the additional aftercare from 1:00-3:00, which will include a quiet rest time after we splash. We will send a complete list of suggested items for campers to bring before camp begins.

In a week of outdoor crafting, campers will use natural materials to create their own special crafts. We will forage most of our materials during nature walks in the forest. Activities will include pinecone angels, kindness stones, flower crowns, and leaf rubbing collages. Campers will use their creative skills, grow in their connection to nature, and most importantly, have loads of fun!

Join us as we spend a week sketching and stitching flowers, leaves, and other growing things. In the mornings, students will spend time sketching outdoors before the heat takes over. In the afternoons, we’ll retreat indoors and turn our sketches into patterns we can transfer to linen – then we’re ready to stitch! Campers will use running stitch, backstitch, lazy daisy, chain stitch, seed stitch, stem stitch, and couching stitch. We will experiment with embroidery floss, perle cotton, and sashiko thread. Campers will create a unique plant-inspired piece of needlework, framed in a hoop and ready to hang on the wall.

Join Ms. Atula in creating Sculpture Art with Clay. In this camp, we will dig deep into Earth Magic as we explore how clay is harvested and how "Wild Clay" can then be used to create works of art. Campers will have an opportunity to express their creativity and learn how to use different tools and techniques for different results when working with clay and mixed media to create sculpture art. The motto is "Messy Hands, Happy Heart!"

In this Waldorf-inspired camp, young minds will discover the transformative magic of nature through hands-on, creative experiences. Campers will engage in guided nature walks, learning how to use plants to make beautiful, natural dyes, and then have a chance to use these dyes. We will craft items using materials from the garden and identify different types of soil. We will also dig up natural clay to mold and shape their own creations. This week-long adventure encourages curiosity, environmental awareness, and artistic expression, while fostering a deep sense of connection to the earth and the elements that sustain it.

Are you a young skateboarder who wants more practice and a chance to improve your skills? Have you always wanted to skate but never had the chance? Spend a week learning the basics of skating and the positive aspects of skate culture. We will get warmed up and practice on campus and then venture out to explore local skateparks of the triangle (Apex, Durham, Chapel Hill). Any level of experience is welcome! All skaters need a board, helmet, and pads to ride. Let's skate!
Ben Trueblood grew up skating in Chicago in the 1980s and has continued to skate for his whole life. He is also a class teacher at Emerson Waldorf, a mushroom forager, and a forest dweller. He is interested in the connection between kinesthetic learning and the development of mental health and other human capacities. Ben lives with his family in Hillsborough and, when not teaching, can be found skating or scouring the woods for treasures. Ben is looking forward to returning to Skate Camp and is excited to keep the stoke going for another generation.
